Event Description:
Feminist art is one of the most relevant political art forms of our time. Feminist artists radically challenge social, cultural and political norms as they relate to women and, in particular, intersectional issues that affect all women. Feminist art subjects include, but are not limited to:

  • first-, second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-wave feminism

  • the female body as a political tool

  • the objectification of the female form

  • the “Western Lens” in feminist art

  • sexism, misogyny and the “male gaze”

  • global feminism

  • feminism and race

  • life/work balance

  • reproductive justice & rights

  • Post-Feminism vs. Contemporary Feminism

  • foundational feminist theories

  • radicalization of female artists

  • breaking social taboos

  • the interdependence of women

  • underrepresentation of women artists in museums & galleries

  • trans-women, queer women, lesbians, and non-binary gender identity
